About Geogalia
-
Geogalia was created to enter the Apps4NSW competition. Via Data NSW, project data was obtained through the Geographical Names Board of NSW by downloading every record in the Geographical Names Register.
-
The Geogalia website extends the search capacities of the current Geographical Names Board of NSW website. People can search over multiple designations and local government areas, as well as previously inaccessible fields such as previous and geographical names, description, meaning, origin and history. A different style of search allows people to search for places within a certain radius of an address.
Geogalia uses Google maps to display the location of the places.
The location data from the Geographical Names Board of NSW is approximate. However, the website allows people to enter location data for an existing location with the hope that, over time, the accuracy of location data will improve.
It is also possible to add a new location altogether. After new locations are verified by Geogalia, they are available for the public to search.
